A legal practitioner, lawyer Nana Mensah Atoo, has stressed the need for greater care and protection for children, warning that neglect and lack of guidance can push them into a life of hardship.
“Children are the foundation of the future. Without proper love, care, and protection, they are bound to go astray.
“This campaign is therefore about creating a better world for our children by taking them off the streets and giving them the education they deserve,” he said at the launch of the “Save the Children Campaign” in the Greater Accra Region on September 7, 2025.
The campaign, spearheaded by Lynnex Venture, aims to address the growing issue of streetism by supporting vulnerable children with education, shelter, and resources.
It also seeks to raise public awareness and encourage community involvement in child welfare initiatives.
At the event, the Executive Director of Lynnex Venture, Cynthia Raymond, called on parents to take responsibility for the upbringing of their children, stressing that parental neglect is a key factor contributing to the rising number of children on the streets.
“If parents refuse to play their roles as fathers and mothers, we will continue to have children roaming the streets without hope,” she said, adding that the organization plans to hold workshops to educate parents on child care.
A representative from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Eugenia Anukun-Dabeson, commended the organization for complementing government efforts in protecting children but acknowledged that addressing streetism requires collaborative action.
“We are excited about this initiative and grateful to Lynnex Venture for showing leadership in child development. Together, we can bring an end to the plight of vulnerable children,” she said.
The campaign, themed “Elevating Individuals and Communities to Achieve Their Full Potential,” underscores the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding children and providing them with opportunities to thrive.
